Clinical Trials
Our physicians participate in clinical
trials to incorporate state-of-the-art patient care, while
carefully evaluating how best to apply the most recent
developments in cancer therapy.
NorthMain physicians participate in many
research cooperative groups at the national, regional and
local levels: RTOG (Radiation Therapy Oncology Group),
ECOG (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group), CALGB (Cancer
and Leukemia Group B), GOG (Gynecologic Oncology Group),
NSABP (National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project),
and BrUOG (Brown University Oncology Group).
Some of the clinical trials require the
use of complex technologies such as Intensity Modulated
Radiotherapy (IMRT) or surgically placed small radiation
sources directly into the tumor. The National Cancer Institute
(NCI) oversees these clinical trials and requires its research
partners to demonstrate the accuracy of the treatments.
NorthMain Radiation Oncology is among major academic sites
in the US to be credentialed by the NCI for IMRT, Mammosite©
and permanent prostate seed implants. Our patients and
their families can be assured of the highest standards
of care.
Several of our physicians are members
of the Executive Committee of BrUOG and participate in
specific disease site protocol development. Dr. Kathy Radie-Keane
Chairs the BrUOG Radiation Oncology Committee.
These activities are an integral part
of providing our patients with the opportunity to receive
the best cancer treatment available.
