Counseling

Patients and their families face serious challenges as they begin living with a serious, chronic or life-threatening illness. Certain times in the illness experience are known to be particularly stressful. These include the process of diagnosis and beginning medical treatment.

Dr. Margaret Wool is a clinical social worker specializing in psychosocial support, education and counseling for cancer patients and their families. Since 1980, Dr. Wool has been helping patients and their families cope with serious illness.

As part of North Main’s comprehensive approach to cancer care, Dr. Wool is available to all patients and family members during treatment at no additional cost. She can discuss any concerns you may have to help with stress reduction and coping, as well as more intense feelings of anxiety, depression and family distress. Confidential meetings can be arranged on an individual basis or with family members. Please speak to our nursing staff for additional information and referral.

I took advantage of the counseling. I talked with the therapist there and she gave me tapes to listen to. I used the tapes and they helped a lot. The way they all treated me, I don’t think you could feel more at home anywhere.
